The Orange County Intake Release Center (IRC) is the Sheriff’s facility in Santa Ana that handles booking and release processing for the county jail system. It also provides housing and coordinates transportation. Some people remain at the IRC after intake; others may be released or housed at another facility.

Where is the Orange County Intake Release Center?
Address: 550 N. Flower Street, Santa Ana, CA 92703. County Inmate Records: (714) 647-4666. IRC facility information: (714) 647-6063. The IRC is part of the county jail complex. Santa Ana City Jail at 62 Civic Center Plaza is a separate facility. See our IRC facility guide for current contacts and visiting information.
What happens during IRC booking?
For someone entering Orange County Sheriff’s custody, intake can include identification and records processing, fingerprints and photographs, property documentation, medical and mental health screening, and classification for housing. Processing and placement depend on the individual’s circumstances. A recent arrest does not necessarily mean a person has already reached county custody; the arresting agency may still hold them or may have released them.
How do I find someone at the Intake Release Center?
- Gather the person’s full legal name, date of birth if known, arrest location and approximate time. Keep any booking number available.
- Ask the arresting agency whether the person remains in local custody, was released or was transferred.
- For county custody, use the Sheriff’s Inmate Information System or contact County Inmate Records. The public portal requires an account and does not display inmate charges.
- Ask for the current facility, booking number, available charge information, bail and court details. Our team can help: request inmate information or call (714) 616-1387.
If a name does not appear, check the spelling and the arresting or holding agency. Booking, transfer and record processing can affect a search; a missing result alone does not confirm release. See our Orange County inmate search guide.
Does the IRC house inmates?
Yes. In addition to intake and release processing, the Sheriff describes housing at the IRC, including specialized care. A person may remain at the IRC or be assigned to another county facility based on classification and care needs. Confirm the current location before planning a visit or sending mail.
How does release work at the IRC?
The IRC processes releases from the county jail system. Release can follow a court order, completion of a sentence or satisfaction of applicable bail and other requirements. Staff complete the required records and screening before departure. Processing times vary, and a posted bond alone does not establish a pickup time. Ask for the current status and pickup instructions. Our release and pickup guide explains what to ask and lists local reentry resources.
Can bail be posted at the Intake Release Center?
The Sheriff lists the IRC cashier at 550 N. Flower Street as open 24 hours for eligible bail payments and bonds. Call (714) 647-6085 to confirm the full name, booking number, current amount and accepted payment method. Read the Sheriff’s cashier instructions and our bail and release guide.
IRC visiting and inmate calls
The Sheriff lists IRC visiting Friday through Monday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., by appointment. Call (714) 647-6050 to schedule; appointments must be made at least 24 hours ahead. Have the booking number ready and confirm current housing and availability. Read the IRC visiting instructions before traveling.
To prepare to receive an outgoing inmate call, see our phone account and communications guide. ConnectNetwork is the Sheriff’s outside service provider; contact its AdvancePay support at (800) 483-8314 for account or calling problems.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Intake Release Center the same as Santa Ana City Jail?
No. The IRC is a county Sheriff’s facility on North Flower Street. Santa Ana City Jail is a separate city facility. Use our Santa Ana City Jail guide for city custody.
How long does booking take?
Processing varies. Ask the arresting or holding agency about the person’s status and whether a booking number is available.
Does a missing inmate-search result mean someone has been released?
No. Check the name and arresting agency, then request the latest custody status from the holding agency or County Inmate Records.
Can I pick someone up as soon as bail is posted?
Confirm that bail has been accepted and ask the jail what processing and pickup instructions apply to that person.
