Get Help With Inmate Arrest Charges and Bail Amounts

Need to find out why someone was arrested, where they are held, or how much bail has been set? Request help with available arrest charges, booking information, bail amounts and court dates. Start with the person’s name and arrest city.

How Do I Find an Inmate’s Charges in Orange County?

Identify the person and the agency that currently has custody, then request the available alleged offenses, charge codes and booking reference for that arrest. The Orange County Sheriff’s current public Inmate Information System does not display inmate charges. A missing charge listing does not mean there are no charges. OC Jail Information Center can help you request available charge, custody and bail information.

  1. Identify the person: provide the full legal name and date of birth if known.
  2. Identify the arrest: include the arrest city, approximate date and time, and arresting agency if known.
  3. Confirm current custody: ask whether the person is still held by the city agency or has transferred to a county facility.
  4. Request the booking details: ask for the alleged offenses or charge codes, booking number, current bail amount, any holds, and assigned court information.
  5. Keep the details together: record which booking and date each answer concerns so a previous arrest is not confused with the current one.

You can start an inquiry without a booking number. Tell us what information you have or call (714) 616-1387 for assistance.

Why Aren’t Arrest Charges Showing Online?

The Sheriff describes this as a limitation of its current public inmate system. Repeating the same name search may not reveal charge information that the system does not display. For a recent arrest, the useful next step is to identify the holding agency and request the available booking information. If a case has been filed, court case and calendar information can also help establish the filing status and next appearance.

Find an Inmate’s Next Court Date

Gather the person’s full name and court case number if known. Search the Orange County court calendar under Criminal using the case number or last name, then confirm the matching date, courthouse and department. A booking number and a court case number are different. For courthouse assignments, arraignments and next steps, see our court-date and courthouse guide. Need help? Request inmate information or call (714) 616-1387.

Arrest Charges, Filed Charges and Court Dates

A booking entry and a court case answer different questions. Keep the current arrest or booking reference with the case number when one becomes available.

Information needed What to ask
Arrest charges What alleged offenses or charge codes are associated with this booking?
Filed case information Has a criminal case been filed, and what case number identifies it?
Court appearance What date, time, courthouse and department are assigned?
Custody location Which facility currently holds the person, and has a transfer occurred?

Use our Orange County court-date and arraignment guide for the next hearing step. For help organizing a charge or court-date inquiry, request inmate information.

How Do I Find the Current Bail Amount?

Ask for the full bail amount associated with the current booking and whether there are holds or case instructions affecting the next step. The Sheriff’s cashier guidance calls for verifying the person’s full name, booking number and full bail amount before payment. A bail schedule helps explain scheduled amounts; it is not the same as the person’s current booking total.

Our Orange County bail schedule and release-options guide explains the difference between cash bail, a bail bond and waiting for court to address release. If you already have a listed amount, include it in your inquiry along with the booking or case number if available.

Need Arrest Charges or a Bail Amount Now?

Send the person’s name, arrest city and the question you need answered. Our assistance team can help with available arrest charges, current custody, bail amounts and court information.

Start With the City or Arresting Agency

Use the Orange County police and Sheriff agency directory when the arresting agency is known. Local guides include Anaheim, Fullerton, Santa Ana, Irvine and Huntington Beach. A city arrest location and a later county housing location may differ.

For confirmed county housing, see Intake Release Center booking information, Theo Lacy inmate information, or Central Men’s and Women’s Jail information. Santa Ana City Jail is a separate city facility.

Common Questions About Inmate Charges and Bail

Can I get help without knowing the charges or booking number?

Yes. Start with the person’s name, date of birth if known, arrest city and approximate arrest time. Tell the assistance team what you already know and whether you need help with location, charges, bail or a court date.

Does an absent online result mean the person has no charges?

No. First check the person’s identity and holding agency. A recent arrest may still be in city custody or intake, and the county public inmate system does not display charges. Use the recent-arrest guide to organize the next inquiry.

Is the bail schedule the same as the inmate’s current bail?

No. Ask for the current full amount for the specific person and booking. Keep any hold or case instructions with that information. The bail guide explains the available payment and court-release paths.

How do I find charges after a transfer from a city jail?

Ask the sending agency which facility received the person and whether a new county booking number is available. Use the current holding facility and booking reference when requesting charge or bail details. Include the original arrest city in your inquiry.

Can I get assistance in Spanish?

Yes. Call (714) 616-1387 for Spanish assistance or use our guía de búsqueda de detenidos en español.
