Mental Health Services for Inmates in Orange County Jails

Mental health care has become a critical focus within the Orange County jail system. In 2021, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department established the Behavioral Health Bureau to address the increasing need for mental health services among individuals in custody. This specialized bureau works in close partnership with the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) and other regional providers to deliver comprehensive behavioral health support to inmates housed in county correctional facilities.


🔹 Comprehensive Mental Health Services Available in Orange County Jails:

Inmates experiencing behavioral or psychiatric crises now have access to a wide range of professional services, including:

  • Crisis intervention counseling
     
  • Psychiatric medication management
     
  • Suicide prevention and risk monitoring
     
  • Behavioral health evaluations
     
  • Referral and coordination with external treatment programs
     

These mental health services are designed to promote safety, emotional stability, and rehabilitation while individuals remain in custody.
